Born in San Francisco, California and spent his early years playing at the famed California Golf Club (better known as Cal Club), where 14-time PGA TOUR winner Ken Venturi taught him how to hold a golf club.

Around the time he was nine years old, moved to Dallas, Texas; his family joined Bent Tree Country Club and Will played the Legends Junior Tour (operated by the Texas Golf Association) with Jordan Spieth and Scottie Scheffler.

One of his favorite memories is attending Game 5 of the 2010 World Series and seeing the San Francisco Giants win the title.

Completed a bucket list activity in 2023 as he and his wife, Caitlin, attended Wimbledon.

Favorite sports teams are the Golden State Warriors (NBA basketball), San Francisco Giants (MLB baseball), Dallas Cowboys (NFL football), and Dallas Stars (NHL hockey).

While recovering from back surgery in 2023, completed his psychology degree at Wake Forest University by finishing up a few remaining elective classes.

Made one of the initial donations ($25,000) to help launch the Grayson Murray Foundation, a non-profit formed by the Murray family to promote addiction awareness and enhance mental health services and research.

Mother, Catherine, was a 1984 letterwinner for the track and field program at University of Oregon.

Amateur Highlights

Played three and a half seasons at Wake Forest University (2014-17), as he elected to turn professional in December 2017 amid his senior season. Credited with four collegiate victories and left the program with the lowest career scoring average (70.44) in records dating to 1981, breaking Bill Haas' school record (70.87 from 2000-04).

Named the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, following Bill Haas (2003, 2004) and Webb Simpson (2008) as the third player in program history to earn the award.

Made his PGA TOUR debut as an amateur at the 2015 Genesis Invitational. Earned a sponsor exemption as the winner of the inaugural Collegiate Showcase.

Represented the United States at the 2017 Walker Cup at Los Angeles Country Club, where teammates included future PGA TOUR winners Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Maverick McNealy, and Cameron Champ.

Won the 2014 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. Defeated future PGA TOUR winner Davis Riley in the championship match.

Won the Trans-Mississippi Amateur in 2014 and 2016. Notable multi-time winners of the event include Jack Nicklaus (1958, 1959).

Qualified for match play at four consecutive U.S. Amateur Championships (2014, Round of 16 at Atlanta Athletic Club; 2015, Round of 32 at Olympia Fields Country Club; 2016, Round of 64 at Oakland Hills Country Club; 2017, Round of 16 at The Riviera Country Club).

Won the 2014 Texas Amateur Championship. Past champions of the event include Charles Coody (1959), Bruce Lietzke (1971), Ben Crenshaw (1972), Scott Verplank (1982, 1984, 1985), and Bob Estes (1988).

Qualified for match play at the 2010 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, but was eliminated by 16-year-old Bryson DeChambeau in the Round of 64. Also qualified for match play at the event in 2011 (Round of 16) and 2012 (Round of 64).

Played his high school golf at Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, Texas. Played one season (2010-11) alongside Tucker Wadkins, son of 21-time PGA TOUR winner Lanny Wadkins, and future PGA TOUR member Kramer Hickok, with the trio leading Trinity Christian to victory at the 2011 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Class 5A State Championship. Zalatoris won individual state titles in 2012 and 2013, finished runner-up in his bid for a third consecutive title in 2014, and helped Trinity Christian win back-to-back Class 5A state titles in 2013 and 2014) at the TAPPS State Championships.

Qualified for the 2009 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at 12 years old and played the two rounds of stroke play in a group which featured 17-year-old Patrick Cantlay.

Awarded the Arnold Palmer Scholarship, given to one player entering his freshman season at Wake Forest each year.
