Personal

Learned the game at Southwyck Golf Club in his hometown of Pearland, Texas. Spent most of his formative years developing his game at Sugar Creek Country Club in nearby Sugar Land, Texas.

Attended Saddlebrook Golf Academy as a high schooler; he was roommates with future PGA TOUR winner Karl Vilips. The two remain close today.

Fluent in Spanish, as are both his parents.

Mother, Catalina, played volleyball for two seasons at University of Kansas (1985, 1986) and two seasons at University of Missouri-Kansas City (1988, 1989). Catalina excelled as an outside hitter at both programs; she led Kansas in kills, digs, and service aces in each of her two seasons, and holds several school records from the side-out scoring era (1981-2000). At UMKC, Catalina broke school records for kills, hitting percentage, and digs – all of which remain school records from the side-out scoring era. Catalina was a member of the inaugural UMKC Athletics Hall of Fame class in 2008 and, at the time of her induction, was one of two student-athletes in school history to have their jersey number retired (Catalina wore No. 8).

Father, Michael, played two seasons (1983, 1984) of football at Missouri University of Science and Technology (more commonly known as Missouri S&T), an NCAA Division II program in Rolla, Missouri. Michael earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Missouri S&T, followed by a Juris Doctor from University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, as well as a master’s degree in business administration and management from UMKC.
