Amateur Highlights
Turned professional in September 2022 following a record-breaking amateur career. Broke records for most consecutive weeks (74 from April 2021 through September 2022) and total weeks (87, breaking the previous record of 60 established by Jon Rahm) as the No. 1 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Amid his reign as the No. 1-ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, won the 2021 Japan Amateur Championship (in July), became the fifth amateur to win a Japan Golf Tour event at the 2021 Panasonic Open (in September), and won the 2021 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (in November).
Followed Massy Kuramoto (1980), Ryo Ishikawa (2007), Hideki Matsuyama (2011), and Takumi Kanaya (2019) as the fifth amateur to win a Japan Golf Tour event.
Became the first multi-time recipient of the Mark H. McCormack Medal (2021 and 2022), which is presented annually by the USGA and The R&A to the No. 1 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking following either the U.S. Amateur or European Amateur (whichever finishes last). Notable recipients of the Mark H. McCormack Medal following its establishment in 2007 include PGA TOUR winners Nick Taylor (2009), Patrick Cantlay (2011), Matt Fitzpatrick (2013), Jon Rahm (2015), Maverick McNealy (2016), and Joaquin Niemann (2017).
Represented Japan at the 2018 and 2022 World Amateur Team Championship; his teammates in 2018 included Takumi Kanaya, and his teammates in 2022 included Taiga Semikawa.
Represented Team International at the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup; his teammates included PGA TOUR winner Kevin Yu, Matti Schmid, and fellow Japan native Takumi Kanaya.
Earned notable victories at the 2018 Australian Men's Amateur Championship and 2018 Asian Games.
Finished T44 in the Boys 15-18 Division of the 2017 Junior World Championships contested at Torrey Pines (South) Golf Course.
